Gastric bypass surgery no weight loss
You will have general anesthesia before this surgery. I received Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery and did not lose weight. I ended up gaining weight because I had to drink Ensure and was back at 270 lbs. I do not get enough nutrients and my body just fights itself. I do not ever get hungry (no stomach growling) so I have to set alarms so that I remember to eat. Due to all the pills I have to take, I also have to take stomach pills to keep from being nauseated. Two years after this surgery, I am only down to 225 lbs. I am so disappointed and willing to have the additional surgery. With open surgery, your surgeon makes a large surgical cut to open your belly. After a family friend had the lapband done, I decided to have it done as well, by the same doctors. This allows the surgeon to view inside your belly while doing the operation. I am now four months out and have lost no weight. My surgeon has said he will consider an additional revision after I am 6 months out. The top section of your stomach (called the pouch) is where the food you eat will go. Your surgeon uses staples to divide your stomach into a small upper section and a larger bottom section. Because of this you will eat less and lose weight. I cannot drink alcohol, not even a little. Another way to do this surgery is to use a tiny camera, called a laparoscope. I went to a bariatric specialist and had to have the band removed, my diaphragm repaired, my muscle stitched up and because of all the damage I had to have the routine GnY done. The scope allows the surgeon to see inside your belly. The scope and instruments needed to perform the surgery are inserted through these cuts. Even with all this, I cannot eat normal sized meals. Your surgeon connects a small part of your small intestine (the jejunum) to a small hole in your pouch. The bypass is done by working on your stomach, small intestine, and other organs. It took about a year, but I got down to 190 lbs. It holds only about 1 ounce (oz) or 28 grams (g) of food. Still with all this drama going on, I do not lose weight. My doctor ordered an upper GI and determined that my anastomosis was too large and the food was traveling through my body as if I had never had the surgery. Instead, I get weak, have headaches, have weak fingernails that tear easily, etc. As a result, your body will absorb fewer calories. I have to take iron supplements twice a day, I take calcium, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin D, magnesium, potassium and I drink protein shakes. I have co-morbidities and want to alleviate some of the problems associated with them.
